At the beginning of Fall 2007, I joined the Department of Economics and Finance at the University of Texas at El Paso as an Associate Professor of Finance. I earned my PhD in finance, with a minor in econometrics, from the University of Arizona . Prior to that, I completed an MBA at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a BS in Marine Sciences from Texas A&M University . My research has been published in top finance journals, such as the Journal of Business, the Journal of Corporate Finance, the Journal of Financial Intermediation, Financial Management, and Journal of Banking and Finance. Topics that I'm currently interested in include the capital structure of firms, the effects of changes in the S&P 500 index, and the “share price puzzle.” I belong to the American Finance Association and the Financial Management Association. In the classroom, I've adopted some innovative teaching methods to facilitate student learning and accommodate different learning styles. My excellence in teaching has been recognized with a number of awards, including the Merrick Foundation Teaching Award. I've taught a variety of courses at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. Currently, I'm teaching Investments and Speculative Markets, both at the undergraduate level. Prior to coming to UTEP, I was an Assistant Professor of Finance at Oklahoma State University and at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh . Before becoming an academic, I worked in the private sector for Glastron Boat Company as an engineering manager and materials manager. I also worked as a ships carpenter for the restoration of a 1877 square-rigged barque, "Elissa." Elissa is a working museum located in Galveston, Texas. My wife and I, our two German Shepherds, and six cats now reside happily in El Paso. Thanks for visiting ~ |
